What's New

The committee is in the advanced stages of organizing an Industry-Academia Partnership symposium to held at EMBC 2010 (Buenos Aires). This will be a continuation of similar symposia successfully held at EMBC 2009 (Minneapolis), EMBC 2008 (Seattle) and EMBC 2006 (New York). It will build on the input provided by IEEE-EMBS members at EMBC 2009, and during the last four years. Watch this space for more information.

Recent Activities

Slides for the minisymposia on industry-academia partnerships held at EMBC 2009 are now available in the resources section. A session on Medical Device Design and Human Factors was also held at EMBC 2009. Based on feedback from EMBS members over the last four years, a similar symposium is being organized at EMBS 2010. A panel consisting of members from the academia and industry committees will discuss topics related to:
  • Medical device new product development and commercialization
  • Differences in academia/industry culture
  • Intellectual property (IP) and licensing
  • Suggestions for furthering academia/industry collaborations
  • Role of IEEE-EMBS in optimizing industry-academia collaboration
The panel includes prominent members from industry and academia.
